Dear Lucy Mae,
You are now 46 months old. What a fun month we've had!
We started off by taking a road trip with Ruby's best friend Chloe to visit Nana and Grandpa. The drive down was only 3 hours but it felt like 300 to me because you had SUCH a hard time being patient asking every 10 minutes "Are we there yet? I WANT TO BE THERE NOW!" Fortunately a stop for potty and fries helped you get through the last bit.
Then there was scootering, and play dough and playing in Nana's garden to keep you happy.
We also went to the Eugene science museum, which you loved. (And yes you all wore red and elephant pants. You LOVE making sure everyone is wearing the same thing, or something similar, trust me, I wouldn't force you into this!)
We had a VERY rainy play date with Cormac and Flannery. You got SO wet and had to borrow clothes from cormac to get home. It was so much fun.
You got to pick out your first bicycle. You and Ruby chose matching fluorescent RAINBOW bikes and you could not be happier. You practiced in the house for one evening and the the next day you were OFF and so excited to ride your bike. You've ridden in rain and sun and in clothes and pjs. Anytime I ask if you want to go for a bike ride, you are always ready to go.
You love riding with Ruby, and she loves trying to keep up with you. You are brave and strong and fast. You amaze me every day.
You have had a great month at Runabouts Preschool. You love school so very much, you talk about your friend every day, and talk about how Jake and Aaron are your best school friends and how Luna is sweet and Athena is funny and how Sol Gallo is little and how you love him.
You are so strong! you can do flips on the rings, and can get your feet up on the bar of the monkey bars.
Your Auntie Bug and Uncle Jason took you and Ruby sailing on their new boat. You were pretty skeptical at first, so you stayed back with me, but when you saw how much fun Ruby had you were ready to get out on the water.
We had the first of many back yard camp outs. You roasted hot dogs (didn't like) and smores (only liked the cookie, not the marshmallow)
You really liked sleeping in the tent! You and Ruby both slept later than usual and slept pretty well! SO we decided to go on a real camp out!
It rained most of the time, but you didn't seem to mind! You rode your bike to the playground, and hiked (many times) in the rain.
Our new tent kept us warm and dry and we all snuggled a lot.
You are such a funny kid! One day in the car you said to me "mama, do you know how to make a ghost sandwich? it's scary, with an elephant, then it's really just jam and bread" I honestly have NO idea what you were talking about but I laughed for a long long time. you also make a very funny scowly face when you are mad (real or fake mad). Your worst insult is "You're not very nice! BYE!"
You are also becoming so compassionate when Ruby is having a hard time or feeling anxious. It's hard being the little sister to someone who is autistic and has anxiety, but you are learning that sometimes you are able to give in, or change your mind to help her get through a tough time. When you do these things it give me a picture of who you will be when you are big, and I know you will be such a helper to those in need around you.
Lucy, you love snuggling and are always asking Ruby "We're best friends, right?" and it makes me smile every time. You are equally delightful and challenging. You force me to reevaluate how I parent on a daily basis, helping me to have more patience, to listen to the whole story and to meet you where you are. I can't always give you what you need and sometimes it can completely break my heart, but I promise I am doing my best. Thank you for your big heart, your warm hugs and your silly laughter. You're the best.
All my love, Mama
